POSITION PURPOSE

The Patient Account Specialist Supervisor functions as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team which manages the care of patients. They provide oversight of daily operations and supervise Patient Account Specialists. The Supervisor ensures that current patients are enrolled into any available funding assistance for their treatment as well as ensure collection of the patient's financial responsibility. They work closely with the Clinical Staff, CSTs, Insurance Case Managers, and the Reimbursement department in providing and promoting customer service, process flow, operational integrity, quality care and process improvement along with high service standards.


QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIRED EDUCATION/TRAINING

Experience/Education:

  • Prior experience working in a healthcare environment and/or
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Education:

  • Associate degree preferred.
  • 2 years of experience in a related
  • Medical terminology and coding.

Other Qualifications:

  • Must be highly
  • Must have strong communication skills, both oral and written, and be customer service
  • A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills in handling interactions with Palmetto Infusion staff, other agencies, groups, patients and families.

Technology Skills:

  • Competent in use of company email as means of communication, accessing the company website to view company policies and electronic medical records.
  • Competent in the use of company self-service payroll software (time and attendance, benefits, pay statements).
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office products and the ability to navigate Internet Explorer. Proficient in typing, word processing (Microsoft Outlook/Express, Word, Excel), and familiar with office equipment.
  • Proficient in the operation of the current EMR software.

Language Skills:

  • This position requires a knowledge of, and sensitivity to, cultural and language differences.

Mathematical Ability

  • Must have the ability to perform basic mathematical computations. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

  • There are a number of deadlines associated with this position. The employee must also multi-task and interact with a wider variety of people on various and, at times, complicated issues.

Physical Demands

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to frequently stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, talk and hear. There may be prolonged periods of sitting, keyboarding, reading, as well as driving or riding in transport vehicles. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include reading, distance, computer, and color vision. Talking and hearing are essential to communicate with patients, vendors and staff.

Other Skills

  • Must be able to work as a team member and develop productive and cooperative working relationships with all members of the Palmetto Infusion team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly supervises the daily operations of the Patient Access Specialists.
  • Ensures clinic schedules have been verified by staff prior to each appointment, including verification of assistance programs and documenting the amount of money to collect from the patient at their appointment.
  • Monitors all upcoming appointments and clinical follow-ups to ensure the appropriate follow-ups are completely in a timely manner.
  • Measures and track performance metrics and provides feedback to staff.
  • Explores all treatment scenarios to ensure best possible option for the patient and company.
  • Provides on-going, clear, measurable performance expectations and feedback for staff. Guides and counsels staff consistently.
  • Holds staff accountable for responsibility inherent in the positions.
  • Serves in a staff development/mentor role to the Patient Access Specialists.
  • Participates in the orientation of Patient Access Specialists.
  • Identifies employee strengths, developmental needs, skills, interests, and values to relate to organization needs.
  • Represents self in a professional and ethical manner and maintains courteous demeanor at all times.
  • Takes initiative to present ideas and suggestions to leadership.
  • Demonstrates ability to maintain calm under pressure and cope with stressful or changing
  • Participates in Performance Improvement processes.
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with Company polices and State and Federal rules and regulations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the primary functions of this job. Normal office conditions exist, and the noise level in the work environment can vary from low to moderate. Limited overnight travel may be required from time to time.
